City Map: Hometown! My hometown!2023

In the context of globalisation, international students are studying in a foreign environment. When in a different cultural system, one can feel great discomfort and difference. The processes of modern society will not completely separate people from their cultural backgrounds (they can use social media etc., to keep information synchronised). However, they do further disconnect people from their environment. Barriers can be seen as a barrier within the culture.

This project takes place in the city. The project invites participants to undertake a walking experience to explore the connection between the viewer and the artwork by eliminating the over-involvement of the documentary medias in the presentation of artwork, and allowing the viewer to engage with the artwork through an experiential format. The artist have set up some rules to let collaborators set their own starting point and end up point. collaborators can be any international students, immigrants or other people who do not live in their original country and culture background. collaborators will set their own starting and finishing points.

- The Collaborators -

The participant is not only a collaborator, but also the leader of the route. Under the rules set by the artist, the participant has complete control over the setting of the route and the definition of the process. In a way, the participants are also creators, bringing their own personal experiences to the walk and making a route meaningful.

Audiences will get a guidance/ handbook of the project, which contains the concept, process and rules of the walk, and they go for a walk.
